I’ll admit it up front: I’m not a mindfulness expert.
I’m just a dad who overthinks, gets knackered, and started reading Gabby Bernstein because something had to give.

If you’re looking for miracle cures or spiritual perfection… this isn’t that site.
If you’re here because your brain won’t switch off and you’re curious but sceptical… welcome to wastedad.com.

Why Mindfulness Works (For Some People)

Mindfulness has become popular for a reason: modern life is chaotic. Phones never stop, work bleeds into home, and there’s no pause button.

At its core, mindfulness is simply: noticing your thoughts without letting them hijack you.

People find it helpful for:

  • Reducing anxiety and overthinking
  • Managing stress and burnout
  • Improving sleep
  • Catching themselves before snapping or spiraling

Small daily practices — even 5–10 minutes — can actually make a difference.

Why Some People Roll Their Eyes

Let’s be honest: mindfulness isn’t for everyone.

It gets criticised because:

  • Some teachings are vague or spiritual-heavy
  • Some courses/books overpromise results
  • It won’t magically fix work problems, money worries, or demanding kids

And that’s okay. If you’re sceptical or want instant results, this might frustrate you — it’s not a one-size-fits-all solution.

How I’m Approaching It (Beginner Perspective)

From my reading of Gabby Bernstein (books like The Universe Has Your Back and Miracles Now), I’m learning to:

  • Notice when my thoughts are spinning
  • Pause before reacting
  • Be curious about my feelings rather than criticising myself

It’s not perfect, it doesn’t fix everything, but it’s a tool, not a magic wand.
